Project Summary

Developed by Majid Al Futtaim, the City Centre Suhar is a landmark in the growing city of Suhar, Oman, located on Al Barakah Street of the Batinah Highway. The mixed-use shopping destination includes over 35,800m² of retail space and features 130 retail stores and services. Its entertainment facilities include cinemas and family entertainment centre. The mall received LEED platinum certification by incorporating various strategies to reduce energy consumption by 21%.

Grankraft fabricated and installed the 160m long entrance canopy.

The construction of the canopy for Suhar City Centre was a fast-track project. The columns of the canopy were designed to be conical, being wider in the base, and are made from mild steel using additional mild steel sheets welded on the base of the columns to achieve the design intent. The canopy is made from perforated aluminium infill panels that are connected to the columns by a series of cantilevered beams. The framing of the canopy is curved but has been designed to accommodate the facetted infill panels to optimise the design and increase repetition in the perforation pattern.
