Project Summary
The design of the mall was inspired by the shapes found in an Oasis and the five plazas resemble the five elements of an oasis: The Cave, The Canyon, The Forest, The Lagoon and The Mirage. The plazas, which feature a free-form shading structure, are connected by passageways which are covered by a diagrid roof light.
Grankraft has fabricated and installed the steelwork for the shading structure of the five plazas which are a prominent feature of the mall’s interior. The free-form structure with a maximum span of 30m and 12m in height consists of a total of 14 columns and beams with a total weight of 40tons. Each column and beam assembly is formed from 15 individual segments. A total of 130 pieces were pre-assembled in the factory, based on the transport restrictions, in order to minimize the installation time on site. Given the complexity of the shape, laser scanning was used to compare the as-built positions with the 3D model throughout the installation process.
Line Investments & Property is a shopping mall development & management division of Abu Dhabi based Lulu Group International had appointed Design International to design the latest ‘Avenues Mall’ developments which is targeting LEED Platinum certification.
