Project Summary

Dubai Metro is a driverless rapid transit train network with 3 lines and a total of 53 overground and underground stations in Dubai and began operating in 2009-2010. In 2020-21 Dubai Metro added 7 new stations on the red line, connecting the existing network to the newly developed site of Expo 2020. The design of the new stations follows the thematology of the existing stations, namely the 4-elements of nature earth, fire, water and wind, viewed in a new perspective. The Dubai Expo Station has a unique design concept of innovation and technology which differentiates it from the other stations. The metro extension is a LEED-Gold certified project.

Grankraft’s involvement in Dubai Metro has been for interior cladding works at the original stations, as well as the Route 2020 extension.

We have been responsible for the fabrication and installation of the metal ceilings, stainless steel, coloured aluminum, textured wall, and column cladding as well as the glass partitions at the concourse and retail areas.

The metal cladding in the stations consist of 0.6mm thick stainless steel hammered sheets with a PVD coating (gold colour) finish and a 3mm thick galvanized backing sheet. The framing structure is made of galvanized mild steel tubes. The cladding has been designed to be removable and it is hooked to the frame allowing for the full concealed fixation system.

The lift glass enclosure consists of 20mm thick laminated low iron clear tempered glass which is fixed to the stainless steel using a spider fitting of grade 316L and brushed finish. The glass panels size installed at site is 2.5 x4 meters.
