Project Summary
Located in the middle of Muscat’s new District, Al Mouj, which is developing into an attractive heart of the city with its inviting cafés, restaurants, and shops, is just a few moments away from the coast and marina. The 40,000m² Kempinski Hotel has 310 rooms, ballroom, events centre, a residential building, kid’s club, health club and spa, as well as food and beverage outlets and was completed in 2018. Referencing the traditional Omani village, the development is composed of nine buildings housing the various functions of the hotel. Designed by Woods Bagot, the project is inspired by surrounding landscapes, like the Mutrah Cornish featuring a variety of geometric patterns.
Grankraft was awarded various interior packages of architectural metal work for feature staircases and decorative mashrabiya, and also the backlit barrisol ceiling within the all-day dining area with a total area of 300m², made out of triangular sections.
The decorative metal that features throughout the hotel as partition, screens or decorative elements were also part of the Grankraft scope. The total area of screens was over 500m² with more than 75 individual aluminium panels with sizes ranging from 1.5m to 5m, finished in metallic PPC.
After reviewing the design documents, we analysed the specified material thickness for the screens and we were able to achieve a reduction of the thickness of the aluminium required. We also optimised the geometry of the pattern to achieve some repetition which would help save time and cost in the fabrication process.
